Efforts of Journos pays off; Coimbatore Collector orders issuance of community certificate to tribal girl
Coimbatore: The concerted efforts of the City journalists in highlighting the 19-year-old tribal girl Sanghavi’s predicament has helped her get a community certificate the lack of which was proving to be a hindrance to pursuance of her medical education.
Sanghavi of Rotikavundanpudur in Thirumalayampalayam town panchayat of Coimbatore district was filled with apprehension about her academic future after all her efforts to get a community certificate fetched no results. As she was preparing to write the NEET exams to secure a MBBS seat, the lack of community certificate kept her worried as repeated efforts from her family to get her one went in vain.
Concerned over her future, few youngsters from her area escalated Sanghavi’s plight to a social justice lawyer and the journalists of Coimbatore.
Sanghavi belongs to the Malasar tribe and her village, Rottikavundanpudur, is void of even basic amenities such as electricity and toilets. In spite of losing her father a few days back, Sanghavi never stopped dreaming of becoming a doctor. Despite financial stress, she enrolled in a private college to prepare for NEET with her heart filled with hope. Unfortunately, she had to discontinue her course as she could not submit the community certificate and all her exertions to fetch one went down the drain. Her heart-wrenching plight garnered the attention of Coimbatore media who published a slew of news articles and special, which carried her woes to the tables of the officials concerned and moved the District Management to swift action. Advocate Silambarasan also played a pivotal role in ensuring justice to the poor girl.
Today was a dream come true for Sanghavi as she got her community certificate door-delivered by a revenue officer under the directions of the District Collector. Seeing the news articles on Sanghavi and the joint appeal by the Journos to help her, the District Collector immediately ordered the issuance of the community certificate.
Adding more to their joy, Sanghavi and her fellow tribals of Rottikavundanpudur are all set to receive the basic amenities and Aadhar cards by the express orders of the District Collector.
An overjoyed Sanghavi profusely thanked the State government, the District Collector and the Journos for helping her out with the community certificate. The young medical aspirant was at loss of words to express her gratitude and said she will move forward with high hopes of cracking the NEET and fulfilling her dreams of becoming a medico.
