COVID-19: No new cases in Coimbatore, Tirupur and the Nilgiris; TN cases crosses 11000
Coimbatore: Though no new cases have been reported in Coimbatore, Tirupur and the Nilgiris, the total COVID positive cases in Tamil Nadu has increased to 11224, as of May 17.
558 people from Tamil Nadu and 81 from other states who have arrived to TN are tested positive for COVID, today. And, Chennai continues to top the list with 6750 cases.
The overall increase in cases on a daily basis has prompted the Tamil Nadu government extend the lockdown till May 17. Relaxations have been announced in 25 districts including Coimbatore and Tirupur, however Chennai and 12 other districts have been given no relaxations.
Till now 3,26,720 samples have been taken and sent for COVID-19 testing to 39 Government and 22 private labs across Tamil Nadu. 3,15,019 samples were tested negative. And, 11,224 persons have been tested positive, till date. Testing of 477 samples are under process. And, 15,099
samples are repeat samples.
Till date, 4,172 COVID-19 positive patients have been discharged and 6,971 active cases are under treatment, as in May 17.
The general public are advised to adhere to health advisories and
travel advisories issued by the state Government. Public should follow the
cough etiquette by covering the face using handkerchief / towel while
sneezing/ coughing. Do frequent hand washing with soap and water.
