Tamil Nadu govt extends lockdown till May 31
Coimbatore: In a major move, the Tamil Nadu State government has announced to extend the lockdown from May 17 to 31.
The move comes after increase in COVID cases in the State in the past week. With 10585 cases as of May 16, the positive cases in Chennai is 6271. In a bid to control the community spread, the TN government has made this announcement of extending the lockdown.
New relaxations has been announced in Coimbatore, Salem, Erode, Tirupur, Namakkal, Karur, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Kanyakumari, Theni, Madurai and Sivagangai.
The 12 districts, including Chennai, Kanchipuram, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, have no relaxations.
Moderate relaxation has been announced in Tanjore, Nagapattinam, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Vellore and Nilgiris districts.
The ban on operating hotels and resorts will continue across the State. Metro and Electric Rail will remain halted.
Maximum of 20 people are allowed to travel in private and government buses.
The prevailing restrictions on wedding ceremonies will continue until the May 31. The lockdown has been extended from midnight today until 31st May.
The new restrictions and relaxations are awaited. Today, the Maharastra government also announced a similar extension.
