Tirupur: Tirupur Ex-MP Sathyabhama's appeal requesting for export of face masks on behalf of Tirupur knitwear industry has now come to fruition. Sathyabama thanked the central government for giving a go-ahead to the request.

The Central Government on Saturday lifted the ban on the export of textile masks. This has allowed the possibility a trade to the tune of 7 thousand crores. The Central Government has banned the export of masks and PPE kits from India since January as the spread of coronavirus intensified. Meanwhile, Tirupur received a large number of trade inquiries from all over the world for cloth masks.

Following this, ex-MP Sathyabhama wrote a request letter on 12.05.2020 to the PM seeking permission to export cloth face masks manufactured in Tirupur. As such, the Directorate of Import and Export (DGFT) of India has lifted the ban on cloth masks on Saturday. It has also announced non-cloth vests may be exported for medical use.

On behalf of the people of Tirupur constituency, Ex-MP thanked Prime Minister Modi, Union Ministers, Piyush Goyal and Smriti Irani, who made the request possible by lifting the ban on export of cloth face masks.

In this regard, Ex-MP Sathyabama said, the Central Government has lifted the ban on cloth masks, which would enable export of facial masks and PPE kits worth Rs 7,000 crore in the next two months. They said the removal of the ban would be very beneficial for the Tirupur knitwear sector.
