The COVID-19 lockdown created a sense of unrest and uncertainty among all working classes. Migrant workers had requested to be sent back to their home states due to the lockdown. They had applied online for the same.While four trains carrying 5,000 workers were sent from Tirupur last week, in the fifth phase, another 1,464 travelled today from Tirupur to Bihar.
Prior to them boarding the train, body temperatures were checked. They were provided with water bottles and food on behalf of the District Administration.
The workers said, "we liked working in Tirupur. Only due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have requested to travel back home. Once the issue is resolved, we would like to come back here again."
