Coimbatore: Railway employees who will be arriving at Coimbatore via the special train from Kerala will have to be isolated for 15 days, suggested the Naam Tamilar Katchi.

They submitted a petition in this regard to the Coimbatore District Collector.

Many employees working at the railway station in TN, especially Coimbatore, are from Kerala. Due to the relaxation of the lockdown, railways is operating a special train today to bring back the employees from Ernakulam, Kerala to Coimbatore.

The Zonal Secretary of the Naam Tamilar Katchi, Tamilselvan, has submitted a petition to the Coimbatore District Collector requesting him to insist on conducting COVID-19 tests for the employees returning from Kerala and to isolate them for 15 days prior to reporting back to duty.

"A complete check should be conducted for these employees who are returning from Kerala. However, neither the TN Government nor the Salem Railway Division seem to have this plan. If this kind of preventive checks are not undertaken, then there is a great possibility for COVID-19 to spread again in Coimbatore. The TN Government must therefore intervene immediately and order testing for all the railway employees returning from Kerala", they insisted.
