CITU protests in Coimbatore to provide proper protective gear to COVID-19 frontliners
Coimbatore: The CITU protested demanding provision of proper protective equipment for all the frontline workers in the corona preventive measures.The CITU also urged fieldworkers to engage appropriate security measures before engaging in corona prevention.
With the threat of coronavirus, a lockdown was implemented in India. Despite the lockdown frontline personnel such as doctors, nurses, sanitary workers, police, water board officials, electricity board officials, journalists and the like are out in the field providing essential services, but in many places appropriate safety equipment has not been provided to them. As a result, many corona warriors have been infected.
In regard to this appalling scenario, the CITU staged a protest demanding these workers be provided with proper protective equipment. They also demanded compensation for the families of the deceased frontliners and medical check-up for the fieldworkers.
District Secretary S. Krishnamoorthy presided over the demonstration which was held in front of the CITU district committee office in Coimbatore. Several CITU district administrators including K. Manoharan, Ratnakumar, and AL Raja participated in the rally and raised relevant slogans.
