"All four patients from Nilgiris stable; might be discharged in a week"- Coimbatore ESI Hospital Dean Nirmala

The last of the COVID-19 cases in Coimbatore has been cured. As a result of this Coimbatore is now free of COVID-19 cases.


Coimbatore: Coimbatore is now free of coronavirus cases as the last of the COVID-19 cases has tested negative.

Speaking on this, ESI Hospital Dean Nirmala said, "259 patients have been cured at the ESI hospital without a single fatality. This includes patients from Coimbatore, Nilgiris and Tirupur. While four patients from Nilgiris are undergoing treatment now, the West zone districts of Erode, Tirupur and Coimbatore have been declared free of COVID-19."

Coimbatore had been closely tailing Chennai in the second place, until a few days ago, with regard to the number of COVID-19 cases. However, the number of cases getting cured showed an upward curve to make a change in the trend.

On May 3, three patients of the same family from Venkitapuram were diagnosed with COVID-19 and one 31-year-old pregnant woman from Karumbukkadai tested positive too. All the four patients were admitted at the Coimbatore ESI Hospital. The pregnant woman delivered a healthy male child on May 9 and the child tested negative for the virus. Out of the 146 patients from Coimbatore, 145 have been cured. There has just one death, a person from Coimbatore deceased in Chennai.

Following the discharge of the three patients from Venkitapuram, the woman from Karumbukkadai was also discharged this morning as a result of which the number of COVID-19 patients from Coimbatore came to nil.For the past nine days, there have been no new cases of COVID-19 that have been reported.

Dean Nirmala further said, "Four patients from Nilgiris are now being administered treatment at the ESI. There have been no fatalities. The patients are being given healthy food and the doctors are committed to provide all-inclusive care. The hospital has treated patients of varying ages ranging between 10 months and 87 years.”“The four patients from Nilgiris are in a stable condition and there is a great chance that they might be discharged within this week," she added positively.
