Coimbatore: A complaint against KCR Mills, Somanur was filed at the District Collectorate by the AITUC. Purportedly, tribal women workers from Odisha employed by the management have undergone a lot of hardships due to unreasonable working conditions.
In the petition filed by the AITUC, District President Damodaran said, "the KCR Mills at Somanur in Coimbatore employs more than 200 tribal women from Odisha. These workers had no respite even during the lockdown as they have been forced to work 16-hour shifts. They were made to stay in the mill and slog. Their wages have not been paid as well. Further, their request to travel back to their home state has also been denied."
Alleging that this was completely against the welfare of the labourers, the AITUC has requested that the District Collector inspect the mill and to initiate action against the management.
