While the entire nation was confined home due to the COVID-19 lockdown, we got to see a relentless and sacrificial workforce comprising doctors, medical aides, health workers, policemen, government officials, sanitation workers, and a multitude of other relevant individuals diligently committing itself to the war against the Coronavirus.
An important faction of this team constituting the sanitary workers was honoured by the residents of the Thanneer Panthal area where 60 sanitary workers were provided a feast. The workers also were presented with towels. The residents said, “we consider the sanitary workers and policemen as equivalents to gods and as a token of our appreciation we have honoured them with a feast.”
In a moving incident in Ganapathi Nagar in Palladam, Tirupur, Pushpa and her daughter, Ammu showered the sanitary workers of their area with love and appreciation by washing their feet and placing flowers. The video went viral and garnered the appreciation of many.
It is heartening to see that the people who looked down on the sanitary workers before the lockdown have had a change of heart. By and large, the workers are now hailed as saviours. This appreciable social change augurs well for a better society tomorrow.
