CITU petitions for action against companies which failed to pay salary

Coimbatore: The CITU appealed to the District Collector to press for action against companies that refuse to pay employees during the curfew. The curfew has been announced across the country due to the threat of coronavirus. Central and state governments have announced that companies should not suspend or lay off employees during this curfew.

But some companies do not seem to follow the government's announcement. There is a justification that small firms are unable to pay. But big corporates are refusing to pay wages due to the curfew, which has angered workers.

As part of this, Indoshell, in the SIDCO area of Coimbatore, has denied salary during the curfew. Following this, more than fifty workers, led by the CITU, met with the District Collector of Coimbatore and demanded that they receive salary for the curfew period. Earlier the company has said that the government order to pay salary during the curfew would not apply for them. They requested the District Collector to intervene and resolve their issue.

Similarly in a petition filed by the District Road Transport Workers Union of the Coimbatore District Collector, Kerala Roadways, which operates BK Pudur, Coimbatore, has refused to pay workers during the curfew. They requested that The district collector immediately intervened and enabled payment of their full salary.
