Migrant worker belonging to Odisha hangs to death in Coimbatore

Migrant worker hangs to death; alleged to have taken the extreme step as he was unable to leave to Odisha, his hometown.


Coimbatore: A 20-year-old migrant worker from Odisha has allegedly hanged himself in Coimbatore. It is alleged that he took the extreme step, as he was unable to travel to his hometown to meet his parents.

Upon information of a male body hanging in a neem tree near Shanmugham Garden in Kovilpalayam here, the Kovilpalayam police of Karumathampatti subdivision rushed to the spot and recovered a corpse which was reportedly in a decayed state. The body was retrieved and sent to autopsy to Coimbatore government hospital.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased is Bansanan Poy (20), belonging to the state of Odisha. He has been working in a private company for the past 8 months and has allegedly been in distress of not being able to return to his hometown due to the curfew.

Reports confirm that the deceased migrant worker had expressed his desire to his brother to visit his parents in Odisha.

The suspicious and untimely death of a migrant worker has raised several concerns among the workers.
