Garlic trader helps handloom weavers in Sirumugai with Rs. 5 lakh worth relief materials
Coimbatore: The struggling handloom weavers in Sirumugai near Mettupalayam were provided with relief measures worth Rs. 5 lakhs by a garlic trader, NSV Ramasamy. The handloom industry is currently crippled by the stagnation of woven linen and a shortage of manufactured goods as curfew has been issued due to the spread of coronavirus.
As a result of this, a large number of handloom workers are severely affected by the loss of employment.
To help them during this time, a garlic trader from Mettupalayam, NSV Ramaswamy, came forward to provide welfare assistance of Rs. 5 lakhs to these workers.
25 types of relief items, including rice, lentils, oil, vegetables, garlic and face masks, were distributed today to the handloom weavers living in various areas including Sirumugai, Alangombu, Mooladharai, Bhagatur, Thamaraipalayam, Vachinampalayam and Vellikuppampalayam. Goods were transported in four trucks and delivered to each village.
Also, the government has already provided 10 lakhs worth car and n95 facial masks to doctors, n95 masks for police and sanitary workers in Mettupalayam and relief materials to the underprivileged.
