Madras High Court orders TASMAC to be closed again, online sales to be permitted
The Madras High Court has just now ordered TASMAC to be closed again. The TN government had yesterday reopened the TASMAC outlets to sell liquor across the state.
This drew heavy flak from the public, all opposition and coalition parties who have condemned the opening of TASMACunanimously.
Under this scenario, the Madras HC has come down heavily on this decision and has ordered the Edapadi Palaniswamy-led AIADMK government to shut down TASMAC immediately during this coronavirus lockdown until May 17, 2020. Only online sales of liquor is permissible.
The case was filed by Makkal Needhi Maiam in the Madras High Court today and the judge has ordered to close down the shops today.
The High Court cited that the directives issued to the state government while opening TASMAC was not adhered to. Importantly social distancing was not maintained in many places which could turn hazardous in the near future during this pandemic.
