The Orissa High Court order to permit the entry of migrant workers only if they tested Negative for COVID-19 was put on hold by the Supreme Court of India.

New Delhi: The Orissa High Court order to permit the entry of migrant workers only if they tested Negative for COVID-19 was put on hold by the Supreme Court of India.

The Center had said that the order of the court was 'unworkable' and that it had been passed without consultation. Owing to this, the Supreme Court has put the order on hold.

The center had argued that the Orissa court had failed to understand the "delicate nature of the situation". It also said that the Orissa High court "did not take into account SOP (Standard Operating Procedure)by other states".

The workers who arrive from other states would be eager to get back to their hometowns and villages, mentioned the Center. Considering the situation of the workers who are coming back into the state the Center had said that the situation of the stranded workers who were returning back into Orissa would become difficult if the order of the High Court was upheld they noted.
