The COVID-19 lockdown had led to the closure of liquor shops all over the country. In this state, the TN government permitted liquor shops to operate from May 7 onwards.
Massive queues were seen at all liquor shops in the State, and police had to resort to mild lathi charge at many TASMACs to control the crowd to restore law and order.
On the first day of reopening, TASMAC shops in the Coimbatore Zone has made a whopping sale of Rs.39,82,71,125. Rs.16,40,32,915 of liquor sale has been reported in Coimbatore district.
The sale touched Rs.11,86,41,920 in Tirupur; Erode district fetched Rs.8,67,34,870 and sale in the Nilgiris district amounted to Rs,2,88,61,420.
