Coimbatore: DMK ward secretary alleges attack by Hindu Munnani for distributing relief material to Muslims in their area. The attack happened late yesterday evening.
Mathiyalagan (56), secretary, ward no 77 of DMK was allegedly attacked at his residence in Selvapuram late evening yesterday. According to the victim, he was attacked for distributing relief material given under the "Ondrinaivom (Let's get together) scheme announced by the DMK leader M.K.Stalin.Mathiyalagan's son Manoj Kumar (30) was also attacked by a group of 10 members.
According to Mathiyalagan, relief material consisting of a grocery kit was distributed to people who had given a call to the number announced by DMK under the scheme. "We have been given a list of beneficiaries from the DMK headquarters and we at ward no 77 were distributing relief. we deliver the kit at their doorstep. Yesterday we got a list of 30 people of which majority were Muslims. Today late evening goons who belonged to the Hindutva groups like Hindu Munnani and RSS barged into my house and attacked me and my son. My son was injured in the attack and they banged my head on the iron gate, I have unbearable pain now because of the attack, so I got admitted at Coimbatore GH."
"We don't provide relief based on religion, whoever had approached DMK for help through this scheme are provided relief material. It's only these people who are adding religious color to this," added the DMK ward secretary.
The investigation is on regarding this incident.
