The Nilgiris: The death of more than 10 animals under suspicious circumstances in Coonoor has raised eyebrows.
Valluvar Nagar near Coonoor woke up to a bizarre day where more than 10 dogs, a wild boar, a cat and a few birds were found dead. The carcass of animals were found in between tea plantations. The death of so many animals on a single day has shocked the residents.
The police and forest department were later informed regarding this incident. The animal carcasses were inspected by the Medical department Zonal Deputy Director Vidiyappan and Veterinary doctor Raja Murali. An autopsy of the animals was also done.
Since the area is surrounded by forests officials are on the lookout for any other dead wild animals in the area. Initial investigations have revealed that the dead animals could have eaten chicken waste laced with weed killers. The police department is investigating the case.
