Coimbatore: Demanding PCR tests and special allowance promised by the government, the Coimbatore Corporation Sanitation workers protested by wearing black badges to work.

More than 3,000 contract sanitation workers are employed under the Coimbatore Corporation. Placing certain demands, the workers under the Jeeva Municipal Traders Union, Janasakthi Labour Union, Tamilnadu Annal Ambedkar Sanitation and Public Works association wore black badges to work today.

Their list of demands includes PCR tests for all sanitation workers in the Coimbatore Corporation, payment of special allowance announced by the state government to the sanitation workers, jobs of contract sanitation workers to be made permanent, salary of contract workers to be on par with the salary of permanent workers, reinstate driver Manikandan who was suspended for protesting.

More than 2,500 out of the 3000 contract workers under the Coimbatore Corporation wore these black badges to work in support of the demands.
