Coimbatore: To prevent the community spread of COVID-19 vehicles entering from the Kerala-TN border are being subject to extensive checks.
Vehicles entering the state from Kerala are being subject intensive checks. 13 check posts on the Kerala-TN border had remained closed for the past 35 days due to the lockdown. Only essential service vehicles were permitted to ply between the states. This included medical emergency vehicles and other essential services vehicles.
The Central government has now given some relaxations in the lockdown norms, from May 4. As per the new norms the public can obtain e-pass from the administration to travel and they are subject to checks at these check posts.
The vehicles entering TN from Kerala are made to undergo checks. As a result of this vehicles have been queuing up for more than 4 kms to complete the checks, before entering the state.
Additionally the information of drivers of all the vehicles entering from Kerala were noted down and proper permits were issued before the vehicles could enter the state. This is being done to prevent aggressive spread like how it happened in Chennai.
