Coimbatore: Industrial estates at Eachanari and Malumichampatti commence operations after 43 days of COVID-19 lockdown. Industries are functioning with 50% of employees.
Relaxation in the lock down norms have led to the reopening of industrial estates in the rural areas of Coimbatore. However SMEs within the Corporation limits are still banned from operating.
The industrial estates at Eachanari and Malumichampatti have commenced operations after 43 days starting from today. The permitted industries are allowed to operate with 50% of the workforce, with restrictions.
Employees are mandated to wear face masks, clean their hands with disinfectants. The body temperature of the employees is also monitored regularly.Similarly, all factories were advised to fumigate thoroughly before letting the employees.
"Due to the 43 day lockdown, the industrial estate wore a deserted look.Industries had to suffer severe financial crisis.
Though operations have started from today, difficult times are ahead.Outstanding payments, reduction in job orders and lack.of manpower are the challenges all industries face in common. As a majority of our workforce are migrant workers, their demand to leave to their home towns is worrisome. Convincing them to stay back is going to a difficult task for the industries", an industrialist from Malumichampatti expressed.
