Autorickshaw drivers petition District Collector to grant permission to operate autos

Coimbatore: Autorickshaw drivers affiliated to CITU submitted a petition to the District Collector on Tuesday requesting to permit operation of autos.

The petition stated that the livelihood of autorickshaw drivers has been gravely affected due to the lockdown. They pointed that its been 43 days since the lockdown was enforced and autorickshaw drivers are reeling under financial crisis.

While those auto drivers with ration cards were provided with the relief fund of Rs.1,000, those drivers registered in the union were provided with Rs.2,000 in two installments. As more than 1000 auto drivers are enrolled in the union, manydid not receive the finance assistance, they mentioned in the petition.

They added that the issue was also brought to the notice of the CM through a petition but no action has been taken, until now. 

The petition also putforth demands that all those with auto permits from the Regional Transport Office must be provided with Rs.15,000 relief amount and the families of auto drivers who were impacted by the COVID-19 lockdown must be given Rs.5,000 as relief amount.

The petitioners requested the District Collector to revoke the ban on auto operation, with immediate effect.
