If the AIADMK government maintains the trend and implement absolute prohibition of alcohol, they will garner the votes of all the women in Tamil Nadu", opined Kadeswara Subramaniam, State President of Hindu Munnani.
Speaking to the press on the State government's decision to open TASMACs on May 7, he said, "COVID-19 has caused a nightmare across the nation. In this crisis situation, the TN government has decided to reopen the TASMAC shops on May 7. The Hindu Munnani believes that this decision should be revoked, as it could lead to spread of the virus. During this lockdown period of 40 days, people those who were dependent on alcohol have learnt to live without consuming liquor. If this situation continues, it will be ideal for the State, as many families will largely benefit."
He added that many heinous crimes and abuses happen under the influence ofalcohol.
The Hindu Munnani, State Presidentfurther said, "If the AIADMK government decides to take this forward and announce absolute prohibition of alcohol in the State, they will be able to garner the votes of all the women in TN. Many political parties are involved in running distilleries. Setting aside their differences, all parties must stand in unison to implement total prohibition of alcohol in TN."
Briefing on the livelihood of the migrant workers in Tirupur, he said their livelihood has become questionable. "If the migrant workers leave for their home towns, the knitwear industry will take a bad hit. Hence, the government must immediately hold talks with the migrant workers and attend to their basic needs. Only long term measures will help to retain them."
