To educate the people on the importance of social distancing, the residents of Nachikonar Street in Kavundampalayam created a model market.
Coimbatore: To prevent the spread of COVID-19, a nationwide lockdown was enforced on March 21.
Despite all efforts to curb the spread of the virus, number of positive cases in many places including Chennai is on the increase. Lack of social distancing at market ares like Koyambedu in Chennai is regarded to be the main reason for large spread of the virus among the vegetable vendors and drivers who were engaged in transporting the vegetables.
In order to sensitise the residents on the importance of social distancing, the Nachikonar Street Residents Association in Kavundampalayam here.presented a model market in their colony.
Lines were drawn to indicate social distancing. Additionally, announcements were made on loud speakers about how to maintain the norms of social distancing while purchasing vegetables at the market and how to maintain hand hygiene. The importance of both these measures were stressed through announcements.
Following this, the residents of the area who came to the market were provided with free vegetables and Kabasura Kudineer. More than 100 families reside in the area and the exercise turned to bean fruitful awareness session to instill the importance of social distancing to combat COVID-19.
The efforts of the residents association was much appreciated.
