45 people arrested for brewing illegal liquor; SP warns of booking violators in Goondas act

22.4 litres of liquor, 198.5 litres of toddy and 35 litres of illegal alcohol seized in Coimbatore; 45 people arrested.


Coimbatore: Brewing illegal liquor during lockdown has been reported at several parts in the suburbs and the Coimbatore rural police (law and order) have also tightened vigil to curb the sale of arrack.

In a recent press release from the police, 45 people have been arrested in connection with brewing illegal liquor, methanol and toddy.

Under the orders of the Coimbatore West Regional IG Periaiah and the guidance of the Coimbatore Zonal Deputy General of Police, Karthikeyan, Superintendent of Police Sujit Kumar has instructed all stations in hislimits to conduct checks to curb illegal brewing and sale of arrack.

On May 3, a chain of raids were held across Coimbatore and 45 people were arrested in connection with the brewing of illegal alcohol, methanol and toddy.

The police seized 22.4 litres of alcohol,35 litres of illegal brews and 198.5 litres of toddy.

SP Sujit Kumar has warned of stringent legal action against those indulge in trading and brewing of illegal liquor.He apprised that continuous raids have been planned to annihilate illegal brewing of liquor. "Further, Goondas Act will be booked on those violating the laws of prohibition of alcohol", he warned.
