After a 45 days break, the fish markets in Ukkadam have resumed sales from today, here. Strict instructions to maintain social distancing and cleanliness at all times has been apprised to the traders. Any violations in the above mentioned norms will lead to strict action and closure of shops, the government has warned.
Expressing a huge sigh of relief regarding the decision, Siraj, Treasurer of Wholesale Fish Market, Ukkadam assured that every trader will take up the responsibility of social distancing. People will be advised to maintain social distancing and wear masks. The entire fish market will be fumigated twice a day, thoroughly, he told.
When questioned on the prices, he said due to supply issues, the prices on all variety of fishes are on the higher side. Presently, we are receiving limited load only from Thoothukudi. There is no supply from Kerala. Once, the supply gets streamlined, the rates will be get stabilised.
