Expressing discontent over the decision, Vanathi Srinivasan, State General Secretary of BJP through a tweet has urged the CM to revoke the decision.
Coimbatore: The CM on Monday announced the opening of TASMAC outlets in Tamil Nadu starting from May 7. Citing that people from Tamil Nadu close to the border of neighbouring States are trespassing the borders to buy liquor, the State has decided to open the TASMAC outlets here.
Expressing discontent over the decision, Vanathi Srinivasan, State General Secretary of BJP through a tweet has urged the CM to revoke the decision. She stressed through her tweet that women in Tamil Nadu have been at peace due to the closure of TASMAC outlets, for the past one month. Now, reopening the outlets will leave the women distressed, again, she opined.
As the CM himself hails from a rural background, he would be well aware of the plight of alcohol, she noted in her tweet and called for action to make Tamil Nadu an alcohol free State.
The TASMAC outlets will be functional from May 7 between 10 AM to 5 PM, the State government notification said on Monday.
It may be noted that the Centre on Saturday has clarified that liquor and tobacco shops can resume operations in all districts irrespective of red, orange and green zones. However, with certain restrictions depending upon the containment areas will be imposed. The new rules will be applicable from May 4 onwards.
