Tirupur: District Collector K Vijayakarthikeyan on Monday informed that all export-oriented hosiery units in Tirupur district can commence work from May 6.
Following the relaxation informed by the government of Tamil Nadu on Sunday,the Tirupur export units have requested the District Collector to allow them to commence operation with immediate effect.
Accordingly, the District Collector, K Vijayakarthikeyan held a consultative meeting with the representatives of export units today to discuss on the operation of export units during COVID crisis, yet maintaining social distancing and other norms.
Addressing the media, District Collector K Vijaya Karthikeyan apprised that export companies can start operation from May 6 onwards, however those units which are situated in containment areas will not be permitted to operate.
The companies should make adequate arrangements to pick up and drop the employees, he added.
He also clarified that talks will be held with the State government regarding the request of migrant workers who are agitating to leave to their home towns in North India.
Speaking to the media, President of Tirupur Export Association (TEA) Raja Shanmugam said that export units will resume work as per the guidelines given by the District Collector. He further noted that bulk orders are pouring in for PPE and masks. The export units should take advantage of the demand, he told.
