Those who return from Chennai to Tirupur must undergo COVID-19 test : District Collector K VijayaKarthikeyan

Tirupur: District Collector K Vijaya Karthikeyan on Sunday has informed that those who arrive from Chennai to Tirupur should mandatorily undergo COVID-19. He apprised that regarding reopening of housery units, a joint meeting with representatives from the industry will be held on Monday.

The State government has imposed some restrictions on the opening of factories and industrial units in the context of the curfew extended till May 17 to prevent the spread of coronavirus. District Collector K Vijaya Karthikeyan briefed reporters on Sunday about the relaxation in Tirupur district. He said 109 out of 114 COVID affected patients in Tirupur have fully recovered. 

He added that two people who returned from Koyambedu in Chennai, voluntarily came forward for COVID testing and were tested positive. Hence, he requested everyone who returned from Chennai to come forward to test themselves for coronavirus.

When questioned on relaxing the norms for opening garment factories in Tirupur, he informed that discussions willl be held on Monday with the trade unions. He insisted that all the companies must comply with the rules proposed by the government to curb the spread of infection.

The Collector further added that the containment zones in Tirupur has come down from 30 to 28 and no relaxations will be made in these areas.
