Public are very aware and cautious ofCOVID-19 preventive measures, wearing masks have become a part of everyone's life, since the COVID threat started. Owing to the surge in demand has, outlets are reportedly selling face masks at higher prices.
In a bid to address the face mask shortage, SHGs in Periyanaikenpalayam area here are engaged in manufacturing quality face masks using cloths.
Four women from rural families were selected by the KeyStone Foundation near Periyanaickenpalayam, Coimbatore, in order to support their livelihoods by employing them to make low-cost face masks.
The four selected women have been making more than 350 face masks every day for over 10 days with the help of the Foundation.
They expressed that this has helped them to make a living and are happy to sell face masks to the public at a reasonable price.
"Work on making exclusive face masks using 100% cotton cloth is underway. It is well received by the public and has helped poor simple women to earn a livehood. The profits from sales are given to the women who work in making the product. Only marketing and transfer assistance are done on behalf of the trustees of the foundation", said aCo-ordinator KeyStone Foundation.
