44-year-old man tested positive case in Coimbatore; two new cases in Tirupur; none in Nilgiris

In Tirupur, two lorry drivers aged 24 and 50 driving watermelon truck from Chennai to Tirupur were tested positive today. They arrived at tirupur on April 30 with fever and were isolated immediately. Samples were taken immediately and confirmed COVID-19 positive. The total cases in Tirupur has increased from 112 to 114. No new cases have been reported in the Nilgiris.

The positive case is a 44-year-old man from Kavundampalayam in Coimbatore. He is  presently admitted at Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai. According to reports, the patient was undergoing critical treatment for cancer there and was tested for COVID, as a precautionary measure. As the result turned positive, he has been shifted to the COVID special ward. All doctors and his contacts are being traced by the health department. It may be recalled that following nil cases in Coimbatore for the past few days, the city moved from red to orange zone.

With further nil cases, Coimbatore district will be declared as green zone, assured the Collector. Of the 142, only eight patients are under treatment at ESI and private hospitals in the city.

In Tamil Nadu, 231 COVID positive cases have been reported, of which 174 cases are from Chennai. So far, 1257 patients are tested positive. In the last 5 days, over 675 people have been tested positive in Chennai. The total cases in TN is 2757, 10049 people have been tested for the virus. There were reports of one death, today. The death count has increased to 29.
