Coimbatore: Special Committee led by Director of Geologic and Mineral resources, Chennai, Manging Director of SIDCO and Corporation Commissioner held field inspection of COVID-19 preventive measures in the city.
The State government recently announced the formation of Field Support Teams for five cities -- Chennai, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Madurai and Salem, as part of the precautionary measures against COVID-19.
The special teams are advised to assist the respective district administrations in the management of containment zones, relief meaures in the containment area, testing, contact tracing and testing and other measures.
The State government had already constituted 12 coordination teams and Zonal Special Task Teams.
The team comprising of E. Saravanavelraj, Director, Geology and Mining, Chennai; R. Gajalakshmi, Managing Director, SIDCO, Chennai along with Corporation Commissioner, J Sravan Kumar reviewed the preventive measures in various wards.
The team inspected Amma Unavagam at Ward No. 68, Ramanathapuram and verified, if social distancing was being maintained.
They further inspected if food was being prepared hygienically, and if the employees were wearing face masks during cooking and serving.
Further, the committee inspected the Gandhipuram market and ensured if people are maintaining social distancing while purchasing vegetables.
The committee inspected the containment areas in D.B. Road area and Syrian Church road, of Ward No:25 and confirmed if required police protection was in place to avoid people movement.
Later, the committee reviewed the patients who are undergoing treatment and those who are tested.
The committee also checked on how relief supply distribution of groceries was carried and also questioned if disinfectants were being sprayed at regular intervals.
The COVID-19 testing camp, being held at the Government Girls Higher Secondary school in P.N. Pudur for the sanitation workers was also reviewed by the committee. They inspected the food preparation work being done for the distribution to the people on behalf of the Coimbatore Corporation and a trust at Puliakulam.
The inspection was also attended by the Corporation Deputy Commissioner S. Prasanna Ramasamy, District Revenue Officer (Stamps) P. Gandhimathi and District Revenue Officer (Excise) M.S. Kalaivani. Police Assistant Commissioner, Ramesh Babu, Assistant Police Superintendent N. Premanadan, Assistant Director (Health) P. Aruna, Town Welfare Officer Dr. Santhosh Kumar, Zonal Deputy Commissioners A.K. Senthilarasan (West), Mahesh Kanagaraj (Central), Assistant Executive Engineer Prabhakaran, Karuppusamy took part in the inspection.
