Coimbatore: In search of livelihood, four North Indian migrant workers from Kerala have begun their journey towards UP, in bicycles. The four workers were employed as stone breaking labourers in the Chalakudy area. On Friday, they arrived to Coimbatore where they were offered food by volunteers.

Due to the COVID-19 lockdown as all means of transport has been restricted, thousands of people have been stranded and are at loss of ways to travel back to their hometowns.
In this situation, Jiyendra Singh, Mohan Sharma, Ajith Singh and Vendra Singh working in the Chalakudy area of Kerala lost their jobs and had been left without any income. Since they did not have any money to pay rent or buy food, they decided to go back to their hometowns.
They used their savings to buy used bicycles and left from Chalakudy on April 29 towards UP.
They reached Coimbatore around afternoon yesterday. While they reached near Karumathampatti area, they were stopped by volunteers. The workers informed the volunteers of their plight and said that they were travelling all the way back to UP through bicycles.
The volunteers then offered them food for which arrangements were made by the area residents. After a brief period of rest, the four migrants workers started their long journey in their bicycles.
