Coimbatore: Alleging that citing religion KG hospital in the city denied treatemt to his pregnant wife the husband haa filed a petition to the District Collector on Friday. The video of the husband accusing the hospital had gone viral on social media.
Muhammed Asif had taken his pregnant wife Madhiya to KG hospit after she complained of stomach pain. At KG hospital, Madhiya was subjected to testing and found to have suffering from fever. As fever is regarded to be one of the symptom of COVID-19, the hospital management advised him to take her to ESI hospital or any other private hospital.
Muhammed Asif rushed her to another private hospital where she reportedly suffered a miscarriage.
While the hospital management denied of accusations of citing her religion, Muhammed Asif has alleged that he was denied treatemt due to his religion. As the video went viral in social media, Deputy Director of Health ordered a probe.
Clarifying their stance, the KG hospital management informed that since the hospital is not equipped to test or admit COVID-19 patients, they had to direct them to the ESI or other hospitals equipped for COVID-19 treatment.
Unconvinced with the explantion rendered by the hospital, Muhammed Asif along with representatives from Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) approached the Collectorate to file a petition against KG Hospital.
In an interview to the press Muhammed Asif said, "My wife Mahdhiya suffered a miscarriage due to the denial of treatment in KG hospital. Though, they have provided explantions, treatment qas denied to us due to our religion."
He lamented that noone should undergo such ordeal and alleged that the hospital management is trying to cover up the issue.
