Coimbatore: One of the renowned hospitals in Coimbatore, KG Hospital has now come under the scanner for alleged religious discrimination. Coimbatore MP P.R. Natarajan has requested the District Collector to intervene immediately.

An employee of KG Hospital has been caught on camera, speaking against offering treatment to a Muslim woman and refusing to treat her. This video caught the eye of MP P.R. Natarajan, who requested the District Collector to intervene in this issue immediately.

Following this, a team led by the Health Department Deputy Director was ordered to be sent to KG Hospital for inspection, by the District Collector. Speaking regarding this issue, the District Collector K. Rajamani said, "All private hospitals have been advised already to offer treatment to all people, irrespective of religion. Legal action will be taken against those private hospital administrations that violate this rule."

Responding to the allegations G. Bakthavathsalam, Chairman of KG Hospital has released an audio message. In the message he said, “KG Hospital has been serving the people for 46 long years. People from all sections of the society have been offered treatment at the hospital indiscriminately. Religious bias has never been practiced at the hospital. Even now more than 10 Muslim sisters are being offered pregnancy treatment at the hospital."

Clarifying the particular issue, he said, "The woman who was sent back had fever. Since the hospital is not equipped to test or isolate COVID-19 patients, they were recommended to go to the Government Hospital. There was no other motive behind the incident."
