Coimbatore: The Coimbatore district has been one of the 22 districts in Tamilnadu that was originally declared under the Red zones that need to be kept under total control.
With end of lockdown 2.0, May 3rd around the corner, the Tamilnadu CM had announced complete lockdown for 4 districts out of which Coimbatore and Tirupur had 4 and 3 days of total lockdown respectively. While Tirupur's lockdown ended yesterday, Coimbatore's total lockdown ends tonight.
The Coimbatore district has for its part not shown any major clusters or spikes in the total number of positive cases like how Chennai has been showing daily for the last few days. Coimbatore just had one bout of 7 cases couple of days back where 7 policeman and women were affected from the Podanur area. On either side of these 7 cases being reported, Coimbatore has had almost zero cases everyday for the last week or so.
With the lockdown ending tonight, some of the norms are getting relaxed for tomorrow alone to aid people to buy groceries as grocery shops are now allowed to operate from 6 AM to 5 PM. This move has been planned to ensure that people don't crowd near shops while coming out for purchase.
From 01/05/2020, the regular timing of 6 AM to 1 PM will be enforced for all grocery purchases.
