The Nilgiris: In a freak accident, a 20-year-old student died while taking a selfie near a river in Coonoor. His body was recovered after 20 hours.
The Nilgiris: In a freak accident, a 20-year-old student died while taking a selfie near a river in Coonoor. His body was recovered after 20 hours.
S. Akhil (20), was the son Sridharan who owns a tea shop in Burliyar, Coonoor.
He was a second year student at a private college in Coimbatore and had gone to take a bath to a nearby waterfall yesterday evening at 3 PM.
While on the river, he had allegedly attempted to take selfies in front of the falls. Since Akhil did not return for a long time, the police were informed.
Following this, the Police department, forest department and fire department officials rushed to the spot and conducted a search for Akhil. The search operations were halted since it grew dark and wild elephants were moving nearby.
Akhil’s mortal remains were recovered in the morning using coracles after around 20 hours of search and was brought to the shore.
After initial investigation it seems likely that Akhil could have died during a selfie attempt. Following this his body was sent to the Coonoor GH for post mortem.
This incident has caused a lot of sadness among the people of the Burliyar area.
