Coimbatore: The Valparai police have tightened vehicle checks to restrict movement of people, as the police are witnessing an increase in the number of people who venture out in the name of buying essentials.

Random checks at main junctions have been intensified in the hilly terrain and people are being sensitised to stay indoors.
"Despite all efforts, people throw caution to the winds and violate the social distancing norms. With COVID cases seeing a decline, people strongly believe that the virus has vanished and defy lockdown norms", opine the public there.
Of late, the police are facing a huge challenge to educate the masses and contain them at their homes.
Under the orders of the Valparai DSP Vivekanandan, Sub Inspectors Satishkumar and Mujeeb conducted vehicle checks at various places in Valparai, today.
Vehicles were stopped at various places and their documents were checked. They were questioned on the reason for their travel. Subsequently, vehicles were fined and confiscated.
Last week, the Valparai police launched a novel idea of painting different colors on vehicles to identify violators. The Police have warned that those who step out for no obvious reasons will be booked under appropriate sections.
