In a statement issued by the Arappor Iyakkam it said, “He seems to have been sued for publishing articles on improper food for doctors and irregularities in distribution of government welfare amount of Rs. 1000. It is believed that the major factor in the backdrop of this arrest is that the news was published against Minister SP Velumani. The police action is literal intimidation of ordinary people and the press”.
The statement further stated that public and journalists have been instrumental in pointing out the government's failures and irregularities in controlling the spread of the COVID-19, adding that the government must work to fix it.
“Such arrests are aimed at suppressing democratic freedom of speech and expression,” the statement from Arappor Iyakkam opined demanding the release of Andrew Sam Raja Pandian.
