Coimbatore: Two journalists from Simplicity news application who were picked up by City police for interrogation on Thursday, were later released after pressure from various journalists associations.
The city police initially picked up one photo journalist and kept him at the Variety Hall Road Police Station. Hearing his detention, the journalist fraternity of Coimbatore arrived at the police station to check on the issue.
However, the police who were mute about the detention further detained another journalist from Simplicity who was at the scene.
Despite best measures from fellow journalists, the police did not give any further information and took both the journalists to the RS Puram Police Station for further investigation.
On hearing the incident, journalist associations from all over the State condemned the act and demanded that the Journos be released immediately.
Following stern pressure, the journalists who were kept at the station for more than two hours were released in the late evening.
