Coimbatore: The prediction by the meteorological department of summer showers in Coimbatore and the Nilgiris in the next 48 hours has brought huge relief to the people who are stuck under sweltering heat for the past one week.

Mild to moderate showers can be expected at a few places in Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Erode, Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theni, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Thoothukudi districts, the release said.
To the contrary, dry weather is expected in the other districts of TN, Puducherry and Karaikal, the release noted.
Cloudy weather is predicted pre-noon and clear skies post-noon, in Chennai. Maximum temperature forecast is at 35 degree Celsius and minimum at 27 degree Celsius.
Maximum temperature of 39 to 40 degree Celsius is the forecast for Madurai, Trichy, Salem, Vellore, Karur and areas near Thiruttani. Farmers, have therefore been alerted to not work in the fields between 11.30 AM to 3.30 PM.
In the past 24 hours Sooralkodu and Pechipaaarai in Kanyakumari district has received 2cm rainfall.
