The government has issued a lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus, which is threatening the world. Thus, there is no business other than that of essential goods. The Coimbatore District Food Safety Department official received complaints through WhatsApp that some places are illegally selling pan masala and gutka products. Following the guidance of District Collector K. Rajamani, District Appointment Officer (please check) Tamil Selvan and Food Safety Officer Shanmugam inspected the Koundampalayam area. The inspection revealed the sale of state-banned tobacco products at the Sankar Narayana grocery store in the area. This was followed by the confiscation of tobacco products. He was subsequently fined five thousand rupees under the Food Safety and Standards Act 2006. The shop was temporarily shut down by food security officials. Officer Tamil Selvan said in this context, stringent action will be taken against those who illegally sell pan masala and gutka products. He said that if complaints made to the Food Safety Department's Whatsapp (9444042322), will be reviewed and stringent action would be taken against the complaints.
