Coimbatore: Minister S.P. Velumani today conducted an advisory meeting regarding the COVID-19 preparedness measures with the District Collector and the Police Department officials.
Following this he met the press and briefed about the measures being taken and the general situation in the District.
"Preventive measures are being undertaken very seriously in the district. Out of the 134 who were admitted for the disease 88 have been discharged after recovery. Food is being provided at the 15 Amma Unavagams. On a daily basis 21,600 people are provided food at these places. Only with the cooperation of the people the lockdown can be success, hence the people must cooperate to make this lockdown effective", he said.
Listing a few general instructions he said, "Press reporters must be careful and maintain social distancing. Communications regarding news and receiving news should be done through phones, as much as possible. The public must purchase seven days worth of all essentials during one visit to a shop."
He further said, "Care is being taken to ensure that nobody is left out hungry, without a meal in the District. Requests have been received to reopen meat shops, but this can be considered only if the meat shop owners guarantee that social distancing will be maintained at the shops."
"One of the Delhi Conference participants from Kuniyamuthur recovered from COVID-19 on receiving treatment, sadly he passed away due to diabetes. The request to bring his body to Coimbatore will be discussed", he said.
Talking about a complaint that was received, the Minister said, "HIV patients have complained that they were fined while they were returning after purchasing medicines. This will be investigated and action will be taken to ensure that they can travel freely to purchase medicines."
Briefing about halting the rapid testing kit tests, he said, "There has been no slowdown in the testing due to the halting of the rapid testing. PCR tests are still being undertaken at the GH and the ESI. All authorities, reporters and policemen in regular contact with the public will be tested for COVID-19", he assured.
