Coimbatore: The lockdown enforced by the government to combat the spread of COVID-19 has been keeping people indoors. The public have been requested to step outside only for extremely essential situations and emergencies. This is being announced frequently over loudspeakers on behalf of the Health department and the Police department.
However, essential workers from police, medical, health department and the media are exempted from the restrictions, as they have to be on field everyday.
In the last few days, the police have tightened the restrictions and dealing strictly with those motorists who venture outside for no obvious reasons. In such cases, motorists are made to queue up and announcements on Coronavirus are being made by the police through various novel ways.
In one such incident on Lakshmi Mills road on Wednesday, the healthcare staff of a private hospital were been made to wait along with other motorists. Despite producing their ID cards, the hospital staff allege that the police on duty ignored their request and made them wait, deliberately.
The police who allegedly took pictures of them have confiscated their mobile phones and asked them to collect it from the police station. This led to an argument, and even after calls were made by the hospital, the staff had to wait half hour which led to an extended quarrel between the police and the healthcare workers.
The motorists and the health care workers jointly opine that amid the crisis situation, it is crucial to avoid such issues, as working together for the betterment of the pandemic is what everyone is hoping for.
