The Nilgiris: Forest Department officials trapped a bear that had been scaring people at the Bikkol village near Coonoor in Nilgiris, today. The bear had been wandering around in the village and had been panicking the people of various villages.
The Nilgiris: Forest Department officials trapped a bear that had been scaring people at the Bikkol village near Coonoor in Nilgiris, today. The bear had been wandering around in the village and had been panicking the people of various villages.
The forests in Nilgiris have been experiencing a dry summer. Due to the scorching heat and drought, wild animals from the forest have been wandering into residential areas in search of food and water. The COVID-19 lockdown has made the residential areas seemingly uninhabited making it more suitable for many animals to wander by.
A bear had been visiting the Bikkol village for the past three days, in search of food. People have been scared by the presence of a bear in the village. It also caused a lot of damage to carrot, beetroot and other vegetables at the farms.
As a result of this the people of the village informed the Forest department within the Kundah Forest range and a cage was placed in the area of movement of the bear.
As soon as the bear was caught it was taken to the Upper Bhavani forest area where it was released by the Forest Department.
