Coimbatore: Hundreds of reporters and media persons participated in the COVID-19 testing that took place at the District Collectorate today. Blood tests were done using the rapid test kits. District Collector K. Rajamani inspected the camp and consulted with the Health Department officials regarding the tests.

Speaking to the press later, he said, "133 people have been tested positive for COVID-19 in Coimbatore thus far. Out of them 54 people have recovered and have been discharged. A substantial number of people are expected to be discharged today. 10 places in the city and 8 places in the district have been identified as COVID-19 hotspots and have been isolated. Arrangements have been made to transport those people in the isolated areas with symptoms of the virus to the hospital."
"Efforts are being made to ensure that community spread does not happen in the district. Coimbatore received 2,000 rapid test kits of which 1,000 have been used already. 8 people have been tested positive using these test kits. Another batch of 1,200 test kits are expected to be received shortly", he informed.
Talking about the test for the reporters he said, "Reporters and media persons are being tested for COVID-19, using the rapid test kits today. Employees of the District Collectorate will be tested tomorrow. Arrangements have been made to use the rapid kits wherever it is necessary."
"The Pollachi GH maternity ward has been closed under the suspicion of infection in the ward after patients admitted there contracted COVID-19. The doctors of the ward have all been isolated. Other than the three Pollachi women who were admitted in the hospital, the other infected people have travel history. The three women from Valparai, Oonjavelaampatti and Aathupaalam had all been admitted for delivery at the hospital and they do not have a travel history. Due to this it is suspected that the ward might be infected and hence it has been ordered to be closed down", he briefed.
