Coimbatore: MLA N Karthik, in a statement released, said that the sanitary workers in city corporation are not provided food on time and that various measures by the government have fallen short of expectations. He also mentioned that the DMK members are working on providing essential commodities such as rice, lentils and vegetables to the marginalized people on ground, even as the country is stricken with the coronavirus.

He accused that the sanitary workers who start duty at 5:30 am are not provided with food until 11 am and they are provided with safety equipment that is only for namesake. He said DMK members have been distributing face masks to them and accused Minister SP Velumani to have turned a blind eye towards such issues.

He added that, “for the past few days, the government has not provided proper food, masks and safety equipment to doctors working in the Government Hospital in Coimbatore. He said the transfer of Dean is a good example to coverup the inefficiency.

Even before the government asked, the DMK Leader MK Stalin had instructed the DMK MPs, MLAs, to immediately allocated Rs 20 lakh to Rs 1 crore from their development fund.”

Relief funds were also provided on behalf of the party. DMK executives are working on behalf of the DMK as a responsible opposition party by seeking and providing assistance to those in need - rice, pulses, vegetables, food and safety equipment.”, he said

He accused that even after 27 days after curfew was announced no one from AIADMK or Minister SP Velumani was found amidst the relief works. He also accused that AIADMK was posing for photographs by distributing government ration shop material posing as relief items by AIADMK for publicity.

He said even after the CM issued two statements to provide relief materials from AIADMK, no one has paid heed. He also said that the AIADMK is going in large groups to inspect disinfection works and Amma Unavagam and pointed out there was a news article about this in a paper dated 12.04.2020.

He further stated that for corona prevention measures, from the date of the curfew, for the past 27 days, on the advice of the DMK party president, the party has been providing essential relief items to poor, middle-class and other state workers.

He accused that the AIADMK was shocked to see the relief assistance provided by the DMK and as a reaction to it they banned relief items provided by parties, social activists and political parties issued a statement banning relief goods and food. He pointed out that DMK Leader MK Stalin has issued a statement condemning the action of AIADMK which was against democracy. Following which, MK Stalin won the case filed in court for providing food packets as relief items.

MLA N Karthik said that MK Stalin had ordered all the MP and MLA to speed up the distribution of relief items and asked them to reach the interior rural areas to ensure no one stays in hunger.

He in his statement assured that DMK will continue to provide essential for the poor and middle class who have no income due to lack of jobs due to curfew.
