Coimbatore: The Coronavirus pandemic in the country is widespread and creating a lot of unrest. Each state has been dealing with the situation in different ways. Delhi, Karnataka, Punjab, Telangana and Gujarat have taken the current situation in their state into consideration and have decided to continue with the lockdown.

In Tamilnadu, the government decided to consult with experts before deciding on extending or cutting the lockdown short. On April 16 an expert committee was appointed by the government of TN. After the first meeting the committee submitted its recommendation to the CM today, April 20. The recommendation of the committee was studied carefully.
Following this, the government of TN has decided to extend the lockdown until May, in Tamilnadu. The prevention measures to contain the spread of the disease have to remain in place and may need to be intensified. As per the State's Disaster Management Act of 2005 the lockdown and other restrictions in place, will be observed until May 3 as announced by the Central government.
Essential work and services will continue to be exempted by the government, as before. The intensity of the disease spread will be analysed again and expert opinion will be sought. Decisions regarding the lockdown will be taken again depending on the situation, said the government.
