The Nilgiris: In a bid to help the poor families suffering due to the pandemic followed by a nation-wide lockdown, the Panchayat Vice President Gopalraj of Edapalli Panchayat in Coonoor distributed financial assistance, out of his own funds, on Sunday.
The Nilgiris: In a bid to help the poor families suffering due to the pandemic followed by a nation-wide lockdown, the Panchayat Vice President Gopalraj of Edapalli Panchayat in Coonoor distributed financial assistance, out of his own funds, on Sunday.
Due to the threat of coronavirus, poor families living in Aniyada, Indiranagar and Mullai Nagar areas in Edapalli Panchayat were distributed rice and pulses at the ration shops.

However, the families were unable to buy vegetables and other pulses due to lack of money. In this case, a thousand families who were struggling to buy essentials like vegetables were shortlisted and in the first phase of the distribution, the Panchayat Vice-President distributed Rs. 1000 cash to 250 families. A total of Rs.2.5 lakhs was distributed to the public.

Gopalraj, the Village VP assured that the remaining families will be provided financial assistance in the second and third phases. He informed that a total of Rs. 10 lakhs has been planned to help the poor and lessen their burden during this lockdown.
