Since the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve is a protected wilderness, there are various restrictions on tourists. Forest sources reported that two tigers were found dead in the Pungan Odai and Pothamadai forest areas near the Thammampathi area in Pollachi Forest Reserve on April 10th. Subsequently, the forest department and medical team visited the scene and inspected the tiger's dead body.
The first phase investigations revealed that the tiger could have died because it ate a poisoned wild boar. Recently, the owners of farmlands nearby had reported to the Forest Department that a tiger had hunted cattle in their farmland near the forest. Forest officials were investigating the possibility that the tiger may have been poisoned as it was hunting continuously.
Following this, Forest officer Prabhakaran, Forest guards Saribarinathan and Ajitharan have been suspended for negligence of duty, National Tiger Reserve authorities are conducting an investigation today at the spot where the tigers lay dead and the search is on for arresting the two absconding persons.
